Ask ten experienced divers which course they loved most, and eight will say the Rescue. It is the training that changes how you see diving: you stop watching only yourself and start seeing the whole group – and you know exactly what to do when something does not go to plan.

The course is surprisingly hands-on, and yes, you will laugh a lot: our instructors act out lifelike scenes from the tired diver to the panicked one, and your job is to recognise and solve each situation. Along the way you master self-rescue, early stress signals, underwater search patterns and bringing an unresponsive diver to the surface – always practised first in calm, shallow water.

The prerequisites are an Advanced certification and a first-aid course no older than 24 months – which you can also do with us: our EFR course (€200) combines perfectly with the Rescue in the same week. The €500 price covers everything: materials, equipment, boat days with lunch, transfers and the certification fee.

Who is it for?

Any diver from age 12 with an Advanced certification who wants to become a confident, prepared diver – for their own safety and their buddy's. It is also the mandatory next step towards the Divemaster course.

Your day, step by step

  1. Day 1
    Theory and self-rescue

A theory review, then shallow, protected water: self-rescue techniques, cramp release, towing a tired diver and recognising the early signs of stress.

  2. Day 2
    Rescue skills

Boat day: managing a panicked diver at the surface and underwater, bringing an unresponsive diver up, and compass search patterns on the reef.

  3. Day 3
    Full scenarios and exam

Complete rescue scenarios from start to finish – search, ascent, tow, first aid – followed by a short theory exam and your certification.

Requirements

  • Advanced Open Water certification (or equivalent)
  • First aid training within the last 24 months (can be combined with our €200 EFR course)
  • Minimum age 12
  • Good general health and basic fitness (medical questionnaire)

Safety

Every rescue skill is learned first in shallow, protected water before you practise it in open-water scenarios. The scenes are intense, but our instructors keep them fully under control at all times.

The Rescue is your ticket to the Divemaster course – and the €500 price includes everything, no hidden costs.

Frequently asked questions

An Advanced Open Water certification (any agency), minimum age 12 and first aid training within the last 24 months. If you are missing the first aid part, no problem: our EFR course (€200) takes one day and slots perfectly in front of the Rescue.

2–3 days depending on your pace. With the e-learning done in advance it fits into 2 intensive days; combined with the EFR count on 3–4 days in total – so both certifications fit comfortably into a one-week holiday.

It is challenging – that is exactly what makes it great. It is more physical than earlier courses, but you do not need to be an athlete: every exercise is built up step by step and repeated until it works. You will finish with that tired-but-happy feeling every Rescue diver talks about.

Whichever you choose: SSI calls it Diver Stress & Rescue, PADI calls it Rescue Diver – the two are equivalent and accepted worldwide. We offer both at the same price, and the content and the experience are the same.

Yes, if you take it together with the Rescue: that is exactly what our EFR course is for, and we also accept any valid first aid training from the last 24 months, for example a Red Cross course. The first aid certificate is required for certification.

The Divemaster course (€800) – the first professional level, which lets you work worldwide. If you prefer to stay recreational, our Deep, Wreck and Nitrox specialties (€180 each) keep your logbook interesting.

Confidence that stays with you out of the water

The rescue course was the biggest challenge of my diving life so far, but the feeling at the end made up for every sore muscle. In the panicked-diver exercise I froze completely at first, then after many repetitions every move came automatically. Special thanks that we could discuss the scenarios in Hungarian, so nothing was lost in translation. I came home a more confident person, not just a more confident diver.

My hardest and best course

During the rescue course I fell into bed exhausted every night – and every morning I could not wait to continue. After the rescue exercises, the panicked-diver simulations and the surface tows I look at diving completely differently: I can now take responsibility not only for myself but for my buddies too. Our instructor was tough as nails but always fair. I would make this course mandatory for everyone.
