Few things compare to the moment a sunken ship's silhouette slowly emerges from the blue. Wrecks are the sea's time capsules – and Hurghada has a true gem of its own: the El Mina, an Egyptian minesweeper warship resting at 30 metres since 1970, just a short boat ride from the harbour. The course dives all take place on this genuine warship wreck.
Wreck diving is a craft of its own: you learn to survey and map a wreck, move safely around sharp metal and easily stirred-up silt, and master the guideline and reel – the technique you also use to practise penetration basics in the light zone, always within sight of the exit.
Two days, 3–4 dives, and a certification that means you arrive prepared at the world's great wrecks – from the Red Sea legends like the Thistlegorm to the wrecks of the Adriatic. The €180 price includes everything: materials, equipment, line and reel, boat days with lunch, transfers and certification.

Your day, step by step
- Day 1Theory and first wreck dives
Morning theory: wreck types, hazards, line technique practised dry. Then two dives on the El Mina: circling, surveying and sketch-mapping the wreck.
- Day 2 – morningLine work and penetration basics
Securing and following a guideline on the wreck, then a penetration into the light zone with your instructor – always within sight of the exit, backup light in hand.
- Day 2 – afternoonFinal dive and certification
A more independent wreck dive using everything you have learned, a short debrief, then your digital Wreck Diver card is issued.
Requirements
- Advanced Open Water certification (or equivalent)
- Minimum age 15
- Solid buoyancy control (we refresh it if needed)
- Good general health (medical questionnaire) and about 2–3 hours of e-learning
Safety
Our wreck diving rules are strict: penetration only in the light zone, on a continuous guideline, within sight of the exit, with a backup light. And lesson one: a wreck is every bit as exciting from the outside.

An Advanced certification from any agency and a minimum age of 15. If you only have an OWD, take our Advanced course first – one of its adventure dives can already be on the El Mina, so you will know exactly what you are signing up for.

Yes, but gradually and safely: penetration basics are practised in the light zone, on a continuous guideline, always within sight of the exit and with your instructor. Deeper, full penetration belongs to technical diving – this course gives you the foundations for that path.
2 days: two boat days with 3–4 dives on the El Mina. The short theory happens via e-learning or on the boat, and the line technique is drilled dry first – so underwater it all feels familiar.
Whichever you prefer: the SSI Wreck Diving and the PADI Wreck Diver are equivalent, accepted worldwide – and the same price with us. The content is identical: mapping, line work and safe penetration.

„Wrecks I had only seen in films before”
Wrecks had always drawn me, but until now I had only seen them in documentaries – this time I took in the El Mina with my own eyes. Our instructor first had us practice handling the guide line at the surface, so down below everything came naturally. The life teeming around the wreck, the lionfish and the clouds of glassfish put on a show of their own. Since the specialty I have been dreaming about the Thistlegorm.

As part of the wreck specialty we dived the El Mina twice, and this wreck simply captivated me. The lionfish hover above the gun mounts as if they were guarding the ship – a surreal sight. We learned how to use the reel and the basics of safe penetration, everything step by step. History and diving at once – there is no better combination.
